The Process: How Projects Work from Start to Finish

For Practical Enterprises

From Your Perspective

The Preliminary Work

The first step of every project involves working closely with you to create a design which fulfills your dream for the project. At the initial consultation, the main goal is for us to get a very clear picture of what your dream entails. Creating a suitable design requires at least one site visit and some discussion about your budget and timelines. Practical Enterprises makes a contract with you that is based on the plan and the budget that were discussed. The contract includes a description of the work to be completed, a schedule for payments and an estimated completion date. Also included is information regarding making changes or additions to the work after the project is underway, should this become necessary. Then the detailed drawings for the design are completed. After you review and approve the design, a detailed schedule and budgets for the project are established. You are involved in creating the plan and budgets - the final approval is up to you. The final preliminary step: Practical Enterprises works with you to obtain any necessary approvals and permits. Should you require it, Practical Enterprises can obtain the approvals and permits for you.

Getting Started

Depending on the magnitude and requirements of your project, Practical Enterprises hires, schedules and coordinates the appropriate qualified people for completion of the work, such as architects, engineers, designers, suppliers, subcontractors and inspectors. In addition Practical Enterprises procures high quality materials and equipment to ensure you get the desired results. A modified schedule for the work will be created based on availability of people, materials and equipment. This schedule assists you with planning around your project. In the case of large scale renovations to your home, you may decide to move temporarily - particularly if there will be extensive demolition. For new construction, you can plan your move-in date based on this schedule.

While Work Continues

As the client, you are involved to the extent that you are comfortable. Some clients wish to reduce costs by performing some of the work themselves. Other clients only visit the site while work is ongoing to inspect the work. Either way, you are kept informed of progress and you are able to make necessary changes or desired additions as work continues. It is exciting to see your dream becoming reality.

Final Stages

As your project nears completion and the finishing touches are being put on, you inspect the work in detail. Any items that you identify as incomplete are identified and put on the final list of work to be done. After all work is completed to your satisfaction, any remaining construction debris is removed and a general clean-up of the work site is done.

The Reality

The project is complete...all that is left is to enjoy the results!
